The School of Journalism and Mass Communications offers several clubs and organizations to provide students a way to gain valuable practical experience. These diverse groups offer something for everyone.
Ad Club allows students considering careers in advertising to get a good look at the industry. Speakers are brought to K-State for the club's regular meetings, and members travel to visit ad agencies. In addition to nearby Topeka and Kansas City, these trips include the nation's top markets. When students join Ad Club, they also become members of the American Advertising Federation.
The mission of Diverse Mass Communicators is to effectively promote cultural diversity through all media outlets while actively recruiting prospective students of all ethnicities to the AQ Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communciations and essentially to the university in an effort to enrich and increase our campus's cultural diversity.
The mission of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is to serve its members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities. PRSSA also serves the public relations profession by helping to develop highly-qualified, well-prepared professionals. Membership in PRSSA gives students an excellent opportunity to network with other students interested in public relations careers, and to meet with professionals in the field.
The Society for Professional Journalists is America's largest journalism interest group. The association is dedicated to keeping public records open and the nation's press free. The K-State student chapter schedules visitors to speak on topics of journalism. Members also attend SPJ conventions to learn more about the profession.
