Frequently Asked Questions About Media Work Examples and Sequences

Applicants should provide two work examples that illustrate their abilities in mass communications. These examples need not be published, but could be work for a class or other non-media purpose. Written work, photography and other visual work, and audio and video materials are all acceptable submissions. Work that appears on the Web also may be submitted.

Applicants may be considered for admission in up to two sequences. Special request must be made to be considered for more than two sequences in a single application. Students are admitted into a sequence of study and must make re-application to change sequences after admission to the program.

Review of Applications

Review of applications for admission to the major will be based on the following factors: academic achievement, including GPA and types of courses taken; promise of success in academic and professional objectives of the major; and clarity of the applicant's career and academic focus.

Students who are not admitted may pursue a second application in one subsequent fall or spring semester. The second application, if the student requests, may be for admission to the major in a different sequence or sequences. Students who are not admitted after a second application may meet with the pre-major adviser to discuss academic options.

Deadlines for Application

Applications will be reviewed once each spring and fall semester. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on February 15 or September 15. Applicants will be notified by email approximately three to four weeks later.
