Enrolling in Courses

Quick Link: More About the Enrollment Process

Kedzie HallOnce a student has become either a pre-major or major in the A.Q. Miller School, he/she must set an appointment with his/her adviser. They must select the courses they intend to take for that particular semester.

Students can enroll in classes through iSIS at isis.ksu.edu.

Each semester, students who are currently enrolled register early for the next semester. Seniors and juniors enroll first, followed by sophomores and freshmen, and then new enrollees. All majors have a faculty member as their adviser. Pre-majors meet individually each semester with the school's pre-major adviser.

Any student may enroll in Mass Communication in Society (MC 110), which is the required first course in all of our majors. Enrollment is restricted in most other courses in the major.

Transfer Students

Students transferring to K-State from other colleges and universities are expected to have at least a 2.0 (C) average in previous academic work to be considered for admission to K-State. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the transfer school to the K-State Admissions Office.

Up to 60 hours of coursework from a two-year school, and up to 90 hours of coursework from a four-year school may be transferred. Once a student is admitted to K-State, the student's transcript is sent to the college of choice. For JMC students, this is the College of Arts and Sciences. The dean's office reviews the transcript and determines which courses fulfill college requirements, which are electives, and which are rejected.

The Enrollment Process

Before your enrollment date, you must meet with your adviser. You can schedule an advising appointment by using the sign-up sheet that faculty members post outside their offices. To enroll in courses, you must meet first with your adviser because only an adviser can clear you for enrollment through iSIS.

Before meeting with your adviser, get a curriculum planning sheet in Kedzie 105, and use this page to pencil in courses you should complete for the upcoming semester. Take this preliminary plan with you to your advising appointment.
